JOHOR BARU: A giant LCD screen has been placed at the entrance to the state police headquarters in Jalan Tebrau in an effort to spread the message about combating crime.

State police logistic department chief Supt Adnan Ahmad said the 3.6m high screen would inform the public of new police initiatives, tips to deter crime, display images of wanted and missing persons and provide police hotline numbers.

He said the 3m by 3m wide screen was set up on May 13.

“It is part of the state police’s National Key Result Area for crime,” he said.

Supt Adnan said the Johor police were the first in the country to have such an initiative and if successful, it would be implemented at all other district police headquarters.

“The screen is similar to a computer where we are able to place valuable information, especially crime awareness programmes such as the Community Alerts (CommAlerts), which is a smartphone application to help combat crime,” said Supt Adnan.

“We are trying to encourage more public participation in our programmes as they are the police’s main ally in reducing the crime rate,” he added.

Supt Adnan said: “With the latest move, we hope the public will learn new crime prevention skills and be more vigilant.”
